TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY OF JOINING WITH MISSION NATION TO “RAISE THE MISSION CAPACITY OF CHURCHES”

MISSION NATION’S  ministry is to “Give a voice to the missionaries to America,” new Americans who have come from other countries. At a time when the church in America is under stress, God, in His mercy, has been sending courageous servants from other parts of the world to be His voice for the good news of Jesus. Mission Nation does this principally through the publication of biographies of the new missionaries, through video interviews posted on our website, a resources section on our website to help churches who are looking for ways to minister to refugees and immigrants and through presentations to churches and church groups.

MISSION NATION is committed to increasing a sense of mission in Christian churches. Towards that end we have begun a ministry called The Making of A Missionary Book Display.

Mission Nation Publishing is looking for churches to participate in a pilot to learn how best to carry out this ministry.

We see three missional benefits to this strategy:

  1. The mission heart of the congregation will grow.
  2. The biographies of the missionaries will gain exposure, garnering more support for them and their mission.
  3. Profits from the sale of the books will go to a mission outside the congregation, spreading the church’s mission vision and involvement.

Our goal for this year is to have fifty churches using the display; in five years five hundred churches will be using the Mission Book Display. Our ultimate goal and prayer is to have 1000 churches using the Mission Book Display.

Congregations that desire to help Mission Nation raise support for missions should be willing to:

  1. Identify one or more local coordinators to take responsibility for the book display (a mission board? a Bible study group?
  2. Advertise and sell the books.
  3. Report to Mission Nation how many books have been sold. It takes 2-3 weeks to receive books after they have been ordered.
  4. Identify a ministry to which proceeds from the sale of the books would be sent (the profits cannot be used for the church itself) and share stories with Mission Nation of how the mission is being blessed.

What are pastors involved in the project saying?

Pr. Curtis Dieterding, Zion, Ft Myers:
“Our church is one of the early pioneers in using the book display. Our LWML has taken on the project and has done well.  Our members love to read about the missionaries and were surprised to know there were missionaries coming to America.”

Circuit Counselor Rev. Rich Browning, Hope Lutheran, Bonita Springs: “We almost sold out our first order the first time the books were offered. We have reordered twice since January.”

Dr. Karl Galik, Pr. Peace Lutheran, Naples: “The books illustrate God’s global interconnected activity and provide a sense of hope and delight in the gospel. Our small church sold over $1000 in books in the first three months they were for sale. I highly recommend any church to participate.”

Rev. Keith Lingsch, Pr. Grace Lutheran, Naples:  Because we have a missionary to Spanish speaking people on staff the books have been helpful.  Our members were encouraged to know there were other missionaries to America. This has made them more  sensitive to the need for our church to be involved.”

John Zehnder, VP Fla/Ga District: “We support a mission field in the Dominican Republic. Our members were surprised to know there were missionaries now coming to America. This has made us more eager to be involved in local mission.”

Children Read To! This is Myra….

Myra’s mom Bethany is a member of her church’s mission board. She purchased all four biographies for her five children whom she is home schooling. Bethany wrote to say, Just wanted you to know, all of my kids are excited about the books. As soon as I arrived home yesterday, my daughter Myra picked up one and began reading. She is riveted!”  If you have a child or grandchild who loves to read, what better books could you give them?

Mary Middleton of Zion Lutheran in Ft Myers, Fl, explains the reason to donate to the book display.

We also have been developing videos to introduce the books to a congregation.  Click to see all four : Video clips for Book Display
